Luke 2: 15-20

15 And it happened that, when the Angels had departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us cross over to Bethlehem and see this word, which has happened, which the Lord has revealed to us."

16 And they went quickly. And they found Mary and Joseph; and the infant was lying in a manger.

17 Then, upon seeing this, they understood the word that had been spoken to them about this boy.

18 And all who heard it were amazed by this, and by those things which were told to them by the shepherds.

19 But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.

20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told to them.

Reflection

In artistic representations of The Nativity, we often see the shepherds, wise men, Mary and Joseph gathered around the humble manger, gazing at the newborn child.

I often pondered what the wondrous child thought when seeing those who admired Him.

While they were in awe of Him, He was also in awe of them.

Being aware that he was the savior for those who looked upon him, did he recognize them not just for their present human state, but also for their future transformation?

Was this small divine already aware and experiencing His profound love for us?

Picture yourself in a state of adoration.

Let Him see you. In His observation of you, what does our small Savior see?

Who do you appear to be in His eyes?

What would you like to say?

Prayer

Dear Lord, Help me to see others as you see them. Help me to see opportunities to train my eyes of faith to see others in need and serve others with love.
